In-App Notifications
Find sync events, anomaly alerts, and integration warnings in the MerchantFlow notifications dropdown. Configure email summary and notification preferences from settings.
In-App Notifications
The notifications dropdown in the MerchantFlow dashboard header (bell icon) is the central place where the app surfaces background events and alerts that need your attention. It complements the email-based Daily Email Summary and the dashboard AI Insights panel.
What Appears in Notifications
The dropdown surfaces events from across the workspace, including:
- Sync events - completed, failed, or partially failed syncs from any provider
- Anomaly alerts - revenue drops, ROAS shifts, sync failures, credential expiry warnings
- Integration warnings - reconnection prompts when an OAuth credential expires or is revoked by the provider
- Account events - team member invitations accepted, role changes, ownership transfers
- Billing events - subscription state changes (trial-ending, payment failure, plan change)
Each notification carries a severity (info, warning, error) and, where applicable, a deep link into the affected page.
Where to Find It
Click the bell icon in the dashboard header. The dropdown opens with the most recent unread items at the top. A small dot indicator on the bell signals unread notifications.
How Notifications Are Generated
Most notifications are produced by background services as data syncs and webhooks complete. There is no manual "create notification" surface - they're all driven by real events:
- Sync coordinator → posts notifications on completion or failure
- Anomaly notification service → posts when the anomaly engine flags a finding
- Integration health service → posts when a credential expiry or sync stall is detected
- Webhook handlers → post when external providers (Shopify, Meta, etc.) signal account changes
Notification Preferences
Email-side preferences (frequency, sections, recipients) are configured at Settings > Notifications (/dashboard/settings/notifications). The same page covers the Daily Email Summary toggle and the Operational Alerts section that includes anomaly findings.
The in-app dropdown itself does not currently expose per-category mute controls.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mute specific notification categories in the in-app dropdown?
Not in the current product. Email-side delivery is configurable from Settings > Notifications (/dashboard/settings/notifications); the in-app bell shows everything generated for your tenant.
Are notifications shared across team members?
Notifications are scoped per user account. Different team members may see slightly different items based on what's relevant to them (e.g. invitation accepted notifications go to the inviter).
How long are notifications kept?
The dropdown shows recent items with the newest first. Older notifications fall off the visible list but related events (sync runs, alerts, etc.) remain queryable through their respective dashboard pages (Sync Status, AI Insights, etc.).
What's the difference between notifications and AI Insights?
AI Insights cards are always-on findings generated by the rule-based engine and surfaced on the main dashboard. Notifications are event-driven items - they fire because something happened (sync completed, credential expired, anomaly detected), not because a generator ran. There is overlap, especially for anomaly findings, but the surfaces are distinct.
