Dashboard Customization and Layout

Customize your MerchantFlow dashboard layout, configure North Star KPIs, and show or hide widgets to focus on the metrics that matter most.

Dashboard Customization and Layout

Dashboard customization in MerchantFlow lets you configure exactly which metrics and widgets appear on your main dashboard, and in what order. By selecting your North Star KPIs, showing or hiding widgets, and reordering sections, you create a focused view that surfaces the data most relevant to your e-commerce business.

What Is Dashboard Customization?

MerchantFlow's dashboard is not one-size-fits-all. The customization system lets you tailor the layout to your specific business priorities -- whether you focus on profitability, marketing performance, product metrics, or a combination. Changes persist across sessions and apply to your entire tenant.

How to Configure North Star Metrics

North Star metrics are 3-4 primary key performance indicators displayed prominently at the top of your dashboard, with up to 12 secondary metrics for additional context. You can choose from 34 metrics across financial, marketing, and operational categories.

To configure:

  1. Click the gear icon on the KPI cards section
  2. Browse metrics by category
  3. Select 3-4 primary metrics and optionally up to 12 secondary metrics
  4. Reorder using up/down arrows
  5. Click Save

How to Use the Dashboard Layout Editor

Accessing the Layout Editor

  1. Click the layout/customize icon on the dashboard (typically in the top-right area)
  2. The layout editor panel opens, showing all available widgets

Customizing Widgets

  • Show/Hide -- toggle visibility for each dashboard section using the switch next to each widget name
  • Reorder -- drag sections up or down to change their position on the dashboard
  • Save -- click save to persist your layout changes

Available Widgets

The following widgets can be shown, hidden, and reordered:

  • North Star Metrics (north_star_metrics) -- your selected key KPI cards (cannot be hidden)
  • AI Insights (ai_insights) -- AI-powered insights and alerts panel
  • Income Tracker & Profit (income_tracker_profit) -- revenue/profit chart with cost waterfall breakdown
  • Revenue Flow & Unit Economics (revenue_flow_unit_economics) -- traffic attribution flow and per-order metrics
  • Ad Spend Breakdown (ad_spend_breakdown) -- spend by platform with top campaigns
  • Valuation Summary (valuation_summary) -- estimated business valuation
  • Top Products (top_products) -- best-performing products by revenue

Note: Some core widgets (like North Star KPIs) cannot be hidden, as they provide essential performance context.

How Layout Persistence Works

  • Layouts are saved per-tenant and persist across browser sessions
  • Each team member in the same tenant shares the same layout
  • If no custom layout has been saved, the default layout is used
  • Resetting to default is available from the layout editor

Tips for Effective Dashboard Customization

  • Start with the default layout and customize as you learn which sections you check most frequently
  • Hide widgets you rarely review to reduce visual clutter and speed up page load
  • Place your most-used sections at the top so critical data is visible without scrolling
  • Choose North Star metrics that align with your current business goals -- update them quarterly as priorities shift
  • Review your layout periodically -- as your business evolves, your dashboard should evolve with it

Frequently Asked Questions

Can different team members have different dashboard layouts?

Currently, layouts are shared per-tenant. All team members in the same workspace see the same layout. Per-user customization is on the roadmap.

How many North Star KPIs can I select?

You can select 3-4 primary metrics and up to 12 secondary metrics. The primary metrics appear as prominent cards; secondary metrics provide additional context.

Will customization affect my reports?

No. Dashboard customization only changes the main dashboard view. Reports and other pages are not affected by layout changes.

Can I reset to the default dashboard layout?

Yes. Open the layout editor and use the reset option to restore the default widget arrangement.

Does hiding a widget affect data collection?

No. Hiding a widget only removes it from the dashboard view. All data continues to be collected, synced, and available in other parts of MerchantFlow.
